Amy Melchior

Amy Melchior is an accomplished. award winning, self-taught artist with experience in painting, photography and all forms of printmaking especially etching and lithography.
Amy primarily works in Encaustic, an ancient process of infusing pure pigments in beeswax. Amy finds wax is a fascinating medium. The finished surface of Encaustic has a transparency and depth that draws the viewer in with a unique luminosity and richness of colour and a sensuous smell that evokes the natural origins of the beeswax.'

Amy Melchior "Elemental" Show
Melchior explains…”These works are explorations of the surface – in the literal sense by the elements that make up the physical structure of the paintings. Historically, looking at what has happened to the surface of the earth in the creation of a civilized world and the search for precious elements ie. metals and other minerals. I am also exploring the physical elements of the paintings, Beeswax in particular– which is stable, protective and a preservative but is also fluid in the painting process. Damar resin is melted in to the wax acting as a hardening agent. Fused on to the surface are Iron powders, pure pigment and metallic pigment powders incorporating brass, copper, zinc and bronze. These minerals provide the silver and golden lustre."
