Compose Art Gallery

about the gallery

Located at 356 Maunganui Road, Mount Maunganui.
Open Wed to Sat.,  11am - 2pm, Thursday evening 6pm - 7.30pm  or by appointment.

Tucked behind In-hair Mount, a short walk from the Mount Maunganui retail strip, Compose Art Gallery is a unique cottage and studio space, providing a relaxed and friendly place to view a varied range of high quality contemporary art, sculpture, glass and jewellery from established New Zealand artists.

Compose Art Gallery was first established in Grey Lynn, Auckland 2005– 2009 and after a break from the art business, owners Brenda and Steve Johnston are thrilled to re-open the doors of the gallery in beautiful Mount Maunganui.

Steve and Brenda relocated to Mount Maunganui with their two young boys Ned and Louis from Auckland’s North Shore in early 2016.  “Being keen art lovers and long time collectors, we had a keen desire to bring a high level of contemporary art to our new local neighbourhood.  The space has a friendly relaxed vibe with a bach like Mount feel to it.”

There is a strong emphasis on a professional yet casual feel to the space, visitors are encouraged to pop in and check out new works arriving on a weekly basis, pieces on display will be constantly changing.  Compose gallery occasionally holds solo and group exhibitions with the aim of bringing some of BOP and New Zealand’s finest artists to the attention of Tauranga locals.
