Tabatha Forbes - 07
We invite you to visit the gallery to view Tabatha Forbes second solo show at Compose “Centre of the Universe” exhibited from Wednesday 19 September. Continuing with her interest in environmental perception (both historic and contemporary), this new drawing work highlights current trends in pop/eco-culture focussing literally on the earth as a whole and referring to the significance of the first photographs of the earth taken from space.
Cartography, botanical and later photographic records have significantly contributed to our shifting perception. “Centre of the Universe” refers unashamedly to our confused ideas about local and global environmental issues…
ARTIST BACKGROUND:
Tabatha Forbes MFA (First Class Hons)
Tabatha Forbes graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts, in 1997. She has been working as a multi-media artist since 1991 and has exhibited and performed extensively in New Zealand. In 2005 she completed her MFA combining her painting practice with video and sound installation exploring the notion of ‘sublime’ in the New Zealand landscape. She was also granted the CNZ/DOC ‘Wild Creations’ residency working in the South Island. In 2006 she exhibited at Lopdell House Gallery in Auckland and Bowen Galleries Ghuznee Room, in Wellington. Tabatha was commissioned to do a 12 metre glass work for the Waitakere City Councils new building.
