Sharon Duymel

Sharon Duymel – Artist

Sharon Duymel is an Auckland artist whose work is exhibited nationally through various reputable dealer galleries.

Sharon has been painting since the late nineties and her sought after work is sold both nationally and internationally.

Sharon’s signature is the simple and beautiful representation of the NZ Toe toe. She gets her visuals and inspiration from the natural New Zealand environment and finds this to be a blue print for her work. By focusing her themes on familiar New Zealand sights, she elevates them and puts them at the forefront of our New Zealand identity.

Many viewers who see Sharon’s work marvel at the realism achieved in her paintings and the unique technique she uses to produce truly fine art. The finished artworks have a three dimensional quality with thick paint applied to further convey the Toetoe presence. Sharon only paints in the finest quality oils onto Belgian linen, and paints with both with her left and right hand to achieve the desired effects.

Sharon was born in Utrecht in the Netherlands and moved to Auckland as a child. She came from an artistic family, both her grandfathers were professional artists in Holland.

Sharon says; ‘I have more of a love affair going on with NZ; and its culture and its history, I believe as a nation we havent even touched the sides when it comes to recognising what we have around us , I find it is very powerful.’
